For BGN English noun forms of denonyms (nationality), plural is specified either by an ending (s), or a separate entry separated from the singular form by a slash (/) and each denoted by an ending (singular) and (plural). If the singular and plural forms are the same, no notation is specified. Gender forms are designated by an ending (men) an (women). Ex. Croat(s)/Croatian(s)
The following columns are automatically updated when an entry is created or modified.
- CID - A unique auto-incremented ID within the table. [Primary]
- UID - A unique (Geo) country ID for the country, which can be used for tracing data back and searching data related to a country. [Unique]
- Created, Modified - Date timestamp of creation and last modified.
- Submitter - ID of registered user who created or last modified the entry.
- Tagger - Reserved Identifier of the source of the latitude/longitude coordinates.
Coverage
The table covers the United Nations recognized 249 countries and territories of the world.

The following references and sources were used to populate the table.
- ISO 3166-1 official English and French short country names, and ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes obtained from the International Standards Organization ISO 3166-1 Country Names and Codes.
- ISO 3166-1 official Spanish short country names obtained from the last revision of the United Nations Statisical Division (UNSD) Uniform Country Code for Statistical Use - Official Spanish Names, 1999 with 2001 corrections, Series M, No. 49, Rev.4; which covered 229 of the 249 countries. The remaining 20 country names were hand-translated using Google.
- US Board on Geographic Names (BGN) approved English and local short and long country names obtained from the CIA World Factbook Country Name Listing. If the short name was not listed, the approved short name was looked up directly in the National Spatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) GEONet Server database.
- United Nations Group of Experts on Geographic Names (UNGEGN) English, French, Spanish, Russian cyrillic, Arabic script and Chinese hanji and local short and formal country names obtained from the UNGEGN Geographical Names Multilingual, multiscriptual dataset of names of countries, capitals and major cities, Dec. 2010.

The FAO publication shows non-Italian accented latin characters (romanized) for the countries Cote d'Ivoire, Curacao, Faroe Islands, and Sao Tome and Principe.

The FIPS 10-4 standard was withdrawn by the NIST on September 2. 2008. The FIPS 10-4 codes are the last codes before the standard was withdrawn.

The ISO 3166-1 codes are inclusive of ISO 3166-1 Newsletter VI-10, 2011-8-9
Both ISO and UN publications show both english only characters and accented latin characters (romanized) for the countries Aland Islands, Cote d'Ivoire, Curacao, Reunion, and Saint Barthelemy.
Clarification by ISO that these codes may be used free-of-charge in commercial applications is stated at: ISO reaffirms free-of-charge use of its country, currency and language codes.
